I am so excited to introduce new interactive anesthesia-themed online games designed just for kids! Anesthesia can be particularly worrisome for children. With little to no basis for understanding what is happening, it's no wonder that an abstract concept like anesthesia could feel confusing and overwhelming. When that confusion is coupled with a strange environment, new people, and NPO (nothing by mouth) orders, it can be a recipe for a meltdown. The great news is that as a parent, you can potentially help your child sail through this experience in a way that is easier for you both!
These anesthesia puzzle games for kids aim to familiarize your child with the anesthesia and surgical environment in a way that is fun and educational. I would recommend letting your child explore these little puzzles within about a week or two of their surgery date. My hope is that these puzzles help your child become more familiar with some of the stranger sights of the operating room BEFORE he or she arrives for surgery and that they could spark some great conversation between you and your child.
Remember our mission- prepared patients have better outcomes!

Follow up questions to spark conversation about upcoming anesthesia and surgery...
What do you think the operating room may look like? (Lights, operating room table, monitors, friendly nurses and doctors)
What types of special clothing do nurses and doctors in the operating room wear? (Masks, scrubs, hats, stethoscope, gloves)
What kind of monitors do you think your nurses and doctors need to check on you? What do you think a blood pressure cuff may feel like on your arm? What about a pulse oximeter?
Reassure your child that under that doctor or nurse's mask is a big smile because they are so happy to be helping you! Remember, prepared patients have better outcomes!
